A Life Rooted in Forestry
Trees With Roots has been established by Finlay Mitchell, who has worked with trees and managed woodlands all his working life. Through decades spent working with woodland, landscapes and ancient heritage trees, Finlay has developed a deep respect for and knowledge of the benefits provided by trees – not just commercial, environmental, climate and ecological but culturally and historically which he now opens to all with availability of trees with Character.
Trees have always been historical storytellers. They witness generations, events, journeys and change. Finlay’s vision was simple but powerful: Trees with Character to Keep History Alive.
Giving a tree with real character reflects the wonderful and caring character of the giver.
Keeping History Alive
Finlay has carefully collected acorns from historically significant trees and landscapes across Scotland and Northumberland, with the landowners support and permission – places shaped by writers, kings, battles, travellers and communities.
Each tree:
Comes from an acorn collected in a responsible manner.
Is grown with care and respect for its origin.
Includes background information about history of the parent tree and location
Represents a living continuation of place and memory to preserve traditional landscapes and ensure genetic conservation of Heritage trees.
By planting one of these young trees, you become part of its story – and help carry that story forward for generations to come.

Finlay plans to offer assistance and advice for all aspects of planting and maintenance to assist establishment of trees capable of providing many, many benefits.
Using Social Media we will have regular updates covering our development and new services with many topics associated with trees to assist establishment and make them more Interesting to all, particularly younger generation.

Employing 2 new young actors from the Cotswold, Big Tree and Naughty Tree, we will be introducing 2 new species of oak… Quercus squirillius and Quercus Jayjay to engage with the next generation in a creative and fun manner.
